Welcome magazine November & December 2023 edition elcome to the November/ December edition of ARC Magazine. Fresh from the Belfast 2023 conference, this issue’s Backchat chats to one of the speakers, Helena Clarkson, about a hugely successful remote volunteering project. Opening Lines is provided in this issue by conservator Hazel de Vere, talking about the project at the National Records of Scotland to exhibit the 700-year-old Declaration of Arbroath. We also hear about plans for next year’s conference in Birmingham - which are already underway! Elsewhere in the issue, we learn a bit more about the Level 7 Apprenticeship in Archives and Records Management, celebrate the Royal Berkshire Archives, and delve into some nuances of ChatGPT. Our features in this edition include Elizabeth Thompson-MacRae on the importance of the role of the record- keeping profession in advising on Lasting Powers of Attorney; Lindsay Loebig discusses current practices in employing Harmful Language Statements; Jacqueline Stockwell guides us through Microsoft Purview; and Stacey Anderson and James Gibbs, from the Box in Plymouth, highlight the importance of minimising the environmental impacts of digital preservation (and share some insights on how this might be achieved).
