Balancing best practices, equitable access, and sustainability is crucial. Environmental concerns are now an additional key consideration in our work. Decarbonising Our Practice The Box is on a decarbonisation journey, strongly aligned with our mission, vision and values and as a committed National Portfolio Organisation. With investment from the BFI Screen Heritage Resilience Fund, our media archive team is assessing carbon costs in preserving the collections to establish a baseline from which to build a strategy and plan that achieve sustainable collections care. We don’t hold all the answers and recognise that there are other exemplary organisations who are further ahead in their journey. We are mindful of the increasing carbon cost as we digitise more. Following a ‘preventing pointless preservation’ approach, we prioritise and digitally preserve vital, frequently used, and at-risk collections or parts of a collection.
